Perfect 24 Hours in Charleston

Oct 08, 2019

If you’re looking for some authentic “Southern Charm,” look no further than Charleston, South Carolina!

We created a Build-Your-Adventure checklist for you to fill out as your plan your trip to Charleston, simply click the button above.

Charleston has so much to offer, but there’s only so much you can do in a day. If you’re looking for a fun, relaxing vacation destination, look no further than this quaint and vibrant city. We took it upon ourselves to put together our must-dos when you’re in Charleston, complete with places to check out, and a checklist for you to customize your vacation however you see fit. If you only have 24 hours in Charleston, this list will help you make the most of it!

We are fitness lovers, so finding places to work out in Charleston was a must.

If you’re in the Peninsula and want to work out with an amazing community of people check out Rhapsody Crossfit. Started by fellow Broadway husbands, this gym couldn’t have been more perfect (or on-brand) for us! Don’t let Crossfit intimidate you, the coaches here are kind, and encouraging, and will make sure you get your money’s worth. Our other favorite place for breaking a sweat is Hylo Fitness. They have two locations, but their classes are built with a full body in mind. Obviously, you would want to take a vacation to rest and relax, but a little endorphin boost never hurt anyone!

After working out our appetites are our number one focus. If you love brunch just as much as we do, you’ll absolutely want to stop by these staples:

If you’ve got time to kill:
Early Bird Diner

The Hen and the Goat

Butcher and Bee

On the go:
Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit

Maple Street Biscuit Company

Let that grub digest then throw on your bathing suit and hit the beach!
We did some quality control on the local beaches, and we found that the easiest to get to and set up shop at is Folly Beach. This quickly became our favorite to go to while we were there. We like less crowded beach spots, so if you like a little more peaceful setting, go all the way to the State Park Side to park. This is also where the story of Porgy and Bess got its inspiration so take in some Gershwin on the drive. Other beaches we loved to hit were Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. They each have their own #mood, so check out which is closer or more convenient for you.

If beaches aren’t your thing we took a ride on the Carolina Girl Yacht which had breathtaking views of the harbor, and the peninsula.

If you’re like us and your day doesn’t start until you have your morning cup of coffee, then you have to hit up one of our favorite coffee places.

Our number one place in Avondale is High Fallutin Coffee. If you want to do a little taste testing and really soak up the coffee shop vibes in Charleston, then you must check out Second State Coffee on the Peninsula, or Kudu Coffee.

There’s too much history to take in so pick your poison!

Drayton Hall

For us, Drayton Hall is the number one choice, followed by Charles Towne Landing. There are other plantation sites to visit that are beautiful, including Middleton Plantation, and Magnolia, but in respect of history and all of its colors, these two sites do it well.

After a long day of site-seeing, you’ll want to get your grub on!
Charleston is a city with so much good food to choose from, these are our top recommendations!

BBQ:  Hometeam

Southern Food:  Poogan’s Porch

ALSO: 5 Church

THEN YOU MUST TAKE A GHOST TOUR WITH BULLDOG TOURS.
Stephen prefers the old jail tour, but Bret loves the cemetery tour. Either way, you can’t go wrong and if you have time, we recommend checking them both out!

Finish your long day of site-seeing and soaking up the southern culture with drinks at the Dewberry rooftop bar, the Hotel Bennett, or the Restoration Hotel.

Even though we are settling back into life in the Big Apple, we look back fondly on our time in South Carolina. We are leaving with so many life lessons, great memories, and plenty of recommendations for our friends, families, and followers! As the kids are saying these days, “we walked so you could run.”

Love,

Bret and Stephen
